Thanks to those of you who came out to the Varsity Football game against CATA. Great turn out for the tailgate! Next tailgate is Friday night against South Davidson for the Homecoming game!
Character Education...
The excitement felt by the students, faculty, parents, and community members in the upper campus gym last Monday was contagious. Union Academy is honored to be named a National School of Character. A special thanks to those who planned and participated in the celebration. It was truly amazing! Our students were so attentive as Ken Templeton (Founding Headmaster of UA) spoke. It was a treat to have Mr. Templeton and other school founders present. We are UA because of their vision.
In our fun-filled day, students had a great time getting to know their families, playing games, and getting some energy out. I was very proud of how the middle school students interacted with the lower school students as well as the high school students.
Mr. Lonnie Moore conducted a fabulous afternoon training session for all faculty and staff, and I'm sure you were just as pleased with the speaker that the character education team provided this year. Please remember the 7 Habits and refer to his handout to avoid being overwhelmed or "majoring in the minors". I appreciate your involvement in the training and for welcoming him to Union
Academy. How can UA teachers reach those students who aren't interested in traditional school as well as those who are?
UA's Got Talent...
Middle school hosted its student council elections over a week ago. As you know, student council nominees presented an original speech to their peers to persuade them to vote for them for student council representatives. I was so proud of our students. All students did a fantastic job. However, one student went above and beyond. Erin Collins wrote an original song as her speech, and I ask her to recreate it for you! UA is so lucky to have such wonderful, creative, involved students. Click the link below to see Erin's video.
Sometimes, we wish we could just have a glimpse into our middle school students' minds. Middle school is such a tough age to figure out sometimes. Mrs. Tohill (curriculum support) shared this article with me, and I felt it was fitting to share with you all. Enjoy! Click the link below to read the article.
